First Keynote by Renee Hobbs: Propaganda vs Education in a Digital Age
Propaganda can be found in marketing and advertising, government and politics, news and information, activism, entertainment -- and even in education. Information has always been used to promote a point of view. But what has changed since the onset of digitisation? If a social media post activates strong emotions, simplifies information, appeals to your hopes, fears and dreams, or attacks opponents, it just might be propaganda. But when and how do educational practices function as propaganda? And what is the difference between propaganda and indoctrination?
What kinds of dispositions, knowledge and skills help people navigate in a world where sponsored content, clickbait, political ads, memes, and disinformation are in widespread circulation, remixed and retransmitted by our friends, neighbors and family? What knowledge and what skills do educators and learners need to develop to manage the diverse genres of persuasion and propaganda that are part of everyday life? In her talk, Renee will introduce instructional strategies that can be used with people of all ages to reshape the social practices of reading, writing, and learning in ways that promote human freedom, civic responsibility, and social justice.

Second Keynote by Guy Levi: Design-Thinking and Lean Startup Methods in creating a competencies and skills based curriculum for the New Normal
The ambitious OECD Education 2030 project was accelerated caused by school closures during the COVD-19 pandemic. Many education systems understood that the old curriculum and the organization of learning were becoming less and less relevant to the goals of preparing the students for the challenges of the third decade of the 21st century. In this reality and context some schools' principals are taking responsibility for developing new innovating programs, utilizing agile and flexible organizational cultures to create the New Normal. In his talk, Guy will present a new model of teachers-students co-design of new curricula using design-thinking and lean startup methods. The process of Minimum Viable Product (MVP) will change not only teaching-learning processes but also the interplay between teachers and students and the meaning of schooling. Fast-forwarding, this experiment could be a basis for a design of a new educational product that is in line with the Learning Compass of the OECD Education 2030 program.
